Safe for You, Sustainable for the Planet: Our Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

We uphold rigorous environmental standards for our suppliers, dedicated to sourcing materials that prioritize both eco-friendliness and user safety. Our ongoing commitment involves continuous development to enhance the sustainability of our products and ensure recyclability at the end of their lifecycle.

Origin of wood material and PEFC certified

Our wood materials are sourced from forests adhering to sustainable development principles, avoiding the use of protected wood species. ISKU employs the PEFC (Chain of Custody) certified tracking system, ensuring transparency and accountability in our wood sourcing practices.

Wood-based boards

Our furniture employs wood-based boards (chipboard, MDF, HDF, plywood, and hardboard) meeting formaldehyde class E1 requirements per EN-120 or EN 717-1 standards. Melamine-coated boards fall within emission class M1 for construction materials, ensuring low indoor air emissions, including formaldehyde, VOC, ammonia, and odors.

Surface treatment

Our surface treatment adheres to eco-friendly practices. We employ 100% UV lacquers and water-based stains, lacquers, and paints. Stain pigments meet the requirements in section 3 of Toy standard EN 71 for heavy metal requirements. Materials treated with water-based and solvent-free varnishes comply with emission class M1, showcasing low indoor air emissions. Metal parts undergo powder painting, eliminating solvent emissions in production.

Glues

Our furniture assembly glues adhere to the European Commission’s Green Public Procurement recommendations, ensuring sustainability. These glues contain less than 10% by weight of volatile organic compounds, promoting environmentally responsible practices in our production.

Metals

Our products primarily use recyclable steel and aluminum. Steel pipes contain 25 to 40 percent recycled material, varying with pipe thickness, as reported by foundries. Aluminum boasts an even higher recycling rate. Embracing these materials aligns with our commitment to sustainability.

Chrome

We use more environmentally friendly trivalent chromium plating.

Textiles

Our upholstery fabrics meet stringent environmental and health standards. Formaldehyde content is below 300mg/kg, in line with EN ISO 14184. Harmful plasticizers like DEHP, DBP, or BBP are intentionally excluded. Our fabrics are free from halogenated flame retardants and avoid azo dyes forming carcinogenic acrylamines or classified as carcinogenic. Additionally, we incorporate fireproof fabrics for enhanced safety.

Foam rubbers and plastics

Our foam rubber is free from ozone-depleting agents like CFC, HCFC, HFC, or methylene chloride. The foam rubber is CertiPUR-certified, ensuring no harmful chemical concentrations. We use PVC judiciously, adhering to part requirements, and avoid PVC waste incineration due to chlorine content. Our plastic parts are phthalate-free, and those over 50g carry the recycling symbol for efficient end-of-life recycling.

Packaging

Our packaging commitment ensures environmental responsibility. All packaging materials are 100% recyclable as energy or material, including reusable options like easy chair boxes and table corner protectors. Easy separation without special tools is facilitated. Products and packaging exclude substances hindering recycling, such as chlorine-containing plastics. We adhere to legal standards in packaging utilization and fulfill recovery obligations by registering with the Packaging Environmental Register PYR (certificate no. 37177-19987).
