Interior designer Anu Kankkunen was tasked by Lt.Col. Timo Viinikainen to design modern facilities that would honour the traditions of the Defence Forces while reflecting the current nature of the institution. The majority of the office staff works in an open office implemented using the Stone workstation concept. The workstations are equipped with electrically height-adjustable desks and Step office chairs with diverse adjustments. Among the key elements of the space are fabric prints with pictures of military, navy and air force activities, as well as themes revolving around Finnish nature.

Furniture solutions facilitate data transfer
Lt.Col. Timo Viinikainen indicates that the office is reforming its operating methods and working in teams of varying sizes – information exchange between employees is an essential requirement for success. Working in open multi-purpose facilities enables improved social interaction but does not force it upon anyone. The staff has been pleased with the premises, workstations and the colour scheme, which is a significant deviation from the norm. According to Viinikainen, the project has been extremely interesting and very successful overall. There were some time constraints on the implementation, but through active collaboration and flexibility between the various parties involved, the project was completed ahead of time.
