The over 110-year-old Art Nouveau building, designed by renowned architect Eliel Saarinen, is now more functional and sustainable, with its valuable original character preserved through careful restoration.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Modernization with respect for heritage and today\u2019s needs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The renovation included strengthening the building\u2019s structures, modernizing technical systems and covering the inner courtyard to improve both the usability and energy efficiency of the space. Original lighting fixtures and furniture were restored to ensure the building\u2019s unique atmosphere remains alongside the new, modern features. The architectural design of the renovation was led by Davidsson Tarkela Oy.<\/p>\n<p>With these updates, Lahti City Hall now serves the city\u2019s administration, decision-making processes and residents more efficiently. The spaces have been designed with flexibility in mind, and the furnishings support the needs of a modern work environment. The selection of high-quality, responsibly produced furniture played a key role, as the renovation was guided by principles of sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe spaces in the City Hall make an impression with their dignity\u2014you feel yourself stand a little taller when entering these historic rooms. Workspaces, break areas, and most meeting rooms are designed to support flexible work. Privacy has been added to the open-plan areas through soundproof phone and meeting booths, as well as desk-mounted screens. A clean desk policy has become a natural part of everyday life here. \u201cUnder the clock\u201d, as locals refer to working at City Hall in Lahti, is a great place to work,\u201d says Risto Uotila, Head of Administration for the City of Lahti.<\/p>\n<p>ISKU took part in the renovation of Lahti City Hall\u2019s spaces, working closely with the project team and personnel and applying the Lahti Model workplace concept. The design process combined user feedback and insights with ISKU\u2019s expertise, resulting in both comprehensive solutions and carefully selected furniture to meet the challenges of everyday work. Sustainability, Finnish quality and user-centric design played a central role in the furnishing of Lahti City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The renewal of Lahti City Hall is a testament to how historical buildings can be successfully updated to meet the needs of today, while preserving their cultural and architectural value.
