However, antimicrobial properties in furniture and other contact surfaces can contribute to better infection prevention.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They can indirectly help tackle diseases contracted via contact,\u2019 says\u00a0<strong>Olga Zimanaite<\/strong>, a pediatrician, advisor to the management of the children\u2019s hospital and the director of the support fund.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital\u2019s bone marrow transplant unit uses antimicrobial materials for its other surfaces also and, in addition to ISKU, Oras, Korpinen, Abloy, Lojer and Teknos supplied antimicrobial products for the hospital. Together these companies form a corporate consortium called HygTech Alliance.<\/p>\n<div class=\"text-content-container\">\n<div class=\"text-content\">\n<h3>Silver helps prevent infections from spreading<\/h3>\n<p>Antimicrobial ISKU+ furniture options includes tables, chairs, sofas and all the standard products by ISKU, so the silver-based technology can be applied across the whole offering. Silver has an innate ability to prevent microbial growth and to destroy microbes within a certain period of time. These properties offer a natural means of protection against microbes and the infections they cause. Because the silver is integrated into the structures, it offers a permanent protection lasting the whole technical lifetime of the furniture.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The furniture offers a permanent solution because the antimicrobial properties are not affected by cleaning or use. The furniture is also adaptable and easy to maintain and wash, and it withstands disinfectants.
